Hairstyles, Makeup and More

Looking perfect for your big day will involve your hair, makeup and nails. This is not a time to try something new unless you have a professional stylist.

Hairstyles
You should meet with your stylist at least twice before your big day. Set your first meeting with the stylist to practice the hairstyles you are considering for your wedding.

  • Bring some pictures of styles to try.
  • Bring your headpiece to see it in action.
  • Keep in mind the style of dress you selected and choose wedding hairstyles that compliment the dress.
  • Choose a hairstyle that reflects your personality. Keep it close to who you are.
  • If you color or highlight your hair, freshen your look a week before your wedding.
  • See if your stylist is willing to travel to the location of the wedding. This will make your wedding day run smoother if you don’t have to run all over the place.

Make-up
On your wedding day, the best choice is to rely on your own natural beauty. Any enhancements should be subtle to avoid an artificial look.

  • Get a facial to help eliminate stress and to cleanse your skin.
  • If using makeup, working with a professional beauty consultant is advisable.

Nails
Your hands will be the focus of attention several times throughout the day, so having your nails manicured is a good option.

  • If you’re having artificial nail tips or acrylic nails put on, make an appointment about ten days prior to your wedding for the initial application. Schedule a touch-up the day before the wedding.
  • Natural well-rounded fingernails are the most popular choice for today’s brides.
  • Keep your cuticles in shape with regular cuticle treatments in the weeks leading up to your wedding.

Bridal emergency bag

  • Having some extras and other essential items in a make-up bag on location might save you some time and stress.
  • Some items you may include are combs, hairspray, extra bobby pins, lip-gloss, oil-blotting sheets and perfume.
  • Have safety pins and perhaps a travel-size sewing kit on hand for emergencies.
  • Buy or borrow a portable steamer and bring a good stain remover (just in case).
  • You might include a travel-size toothbrush, deodorant, hand sanitizer and lotion.
